Feb 12.

Well, it's been a few days since my last blog... It was a long and hard road back after a serious slip-up. I am now finally back to absolute rules. Last week I was mostly compliant, after my heavy weekend, then this weekend I was away with family up north. So, a little drinking (no beer) and a little too much normal food... However, I am now back on lock down and am completing my workouts too. Didn't miss a beat over the weekend.

I will be very strict this week, as we are away skiing on Sunday, and I will be having normal food while I am away. Skiing every day from 9.30am - 5pm (ish) which will look after the exercise. Maybe a few squats and a shot of the band in the evenings, just to see me through. There will be alcohol, but I am fine with that. It won't be like last weekend, where it took my 3/4 days to recover...

How is everyone else getting on?

I think Joe is doing is own version of FIYL now, so not really at all.

I know Sam is still going strong and will bet my life that Swee is. Would be good to hear from the rest of you.

Getting there...

It's been so hard to get back in the saddle!!

Diet has been wavering, not too bad and mostly just lunch on a couple of days. Still not managed eggs and fruit for dinner yet!

Managed 1 full workout this week, the rest have been missing parts, depending on where I've been when doing it.

...SO, still trying to get back to form but I am gonna get there. I'll get some pics up shortly, not much change.

Body strength is good but struggling with the skipping at the moment. Combined with dietary fuck-ups...not burning enough FAT!!

Still not got a good blog in me either....DEREK>>>

Well done others.

FIYWHAT?

It's all gone horribly wrong....

Finding it very hard to climb back on the horse. I will do my 1st exercise since Thursday today.... After all my chat about missing it!! Well the punishment and pain I will feel, will be well deserved.

Im not going into detail.

I will right more shortly, when I am feeling more positive and back on the bandwagon.

Apologies... mostly to myself.

Customisation

Lying in bed, messing with the Blog, I think I have worked out how you link the weekly picture. I will talk Sam and anyone else interested through it. However, I did say I think...

Ripped the handles of my ropes today, that only worked for a while, so had to do skipping without ropes... weird huh!

Pull-ups were very hard today, I am doing 2/3 then basically jumping up and lowering myself down, I think this is a good way to build yourself up to them. Looking forward to them coming.

My friend Christophe is coming over at the weekend, as I said. There will be some cheating, mostly drinking but I am sure there will be some food involved too. Will try and keep it on a level. He is in the shape of his life!! He does a lo of calisthenics, yoga, eats very healthily, so while we will enjoy a drink, it will probably be quite motivating for Joe, Sam and me, of course Swee too, if he fancies it..?

Looking forward to Scotland vs England on Saturday, we could get an absolute humping, but it's usually a good game. Tough opener.

GG made fish cakes last night for dinner, not sure if that's okay. There was no oil or anything from the banned list used, maybe the flour is a no no in the evening but hey ho, they were tasty as.

FIYLing without wings

Another good day, smashed the work-out AM, I realised this morning that I had done day 19 exercise yesterday... Ah well, I'll do it again.  Pull-ups... they seem impossible and right now, they are, but I know if I keep at it they will eventually happen. Got to get it in the head!

So, while skipping this morning, my rope was playing up, it's got a counter etc and is a bit over enginered. It was struggling to do revolutions on the right handle and bunching up, it wouldn't quit. After 300 skips with some serious frustration brewing, I decided to kick it to the kerb. I did the remaining 600 skips without a rope. It was a bit weird at first, I did the hand movements for the entire time and it all worked out. I think I'll invest in a new rope tomorrow, perhaps something a little simpler.

Quick thought, I was meaning to say, I have been replacing my bread carbs in the morning with some porridge oats. I am pretty sure this is okay, I have them cold with milk. Weekends will see a few raisins, some chopped banana and if I am feeling lucky, some honey. Somebody shout at me if this is bad, although I can't see why. I have my eggs and veg after, it gets cooked while I am munching down my bowl. I love it!! I reckon I could eat porridge 3 times a day and be happy...

Glad everyone is getting on well,  keep up the good work.

Friday is an off day for me... Good friend in town that I haven't seen in 5 years... Rules will be broken... That I can promise... But it won't hold me back...Joe is the ringleader... More on that later.

Ciao ciao

Writers Blog

Dear Diary,

Nothing much to report, all coming along nicely. Sticking to the diet a lot more than the1st time round, which I am sure will be visible at the end of this run... I am absolutely smashing the exercises, haven't missed a beat. Working for myself certainly does make it easier I think, I can get it done early and not have it hanging over me in the evenings.

Which brings me to my next point. I am reading about people skipping exercises and missing bits here and there. I think it's my duty to pass on my knowledge and experience in this department. If you regularly miss things now, you will not be able to keep up, as we move through he program. It gets steadily harder and soon enough, it gets quite brutal, if you haven't been building up to it. I know that life gets in the way sometimes, and I accept that. But if you tell yourself it's okay to miss some bits sometimes, I think that will seriously hold you back. I reckon, actually, I know from past experience that having that mindset is just opening yourself up for slacking off. There will be times (not very often) that you can't get it done, but letting yourself thing that is okay, will surely just let you miss more. And as I said, this is only going to get more intense, so if you miss out now, it's gonna be even tougher. Please don't take this the wrong way, I am only offering the truth.

First proper pull-ups today! Insanely hard, I managed about 3, then reverted to the early model. They will come though, you just have to stick with them.

Right, I am off to do some extra shifts for Summerhall, working for someone else :-( But it's going to pay for Ski-pass :-)

Thanks for listening (eh!?)

No means Yes...

Dearest reader,

Great weekend, not a drop of alcohol in sight! All workouts executed to the max and diet (pretty much) in check.

Managed to say no to a night out, a 30th birthday celebration of a close friend. I was a little annoyed that I was missing it, but to be honest, when Grainne came through the door at 6.15am I felt a lot better about myself. I would have most certainly caved and got right involved in the bevy, that would have led to deep-fried food and maybe some more shitty food today.

So as a result of my good behavior;

Got up early and did my skipping. Managed to get around 730 skips before faulting, unbelievable really! Watched the tennis, poor Andy. Went to the super market and stocked up for the week, a few admin jobs here and there, saw my nephew and Im ready for a nice sunday afternoon/evening. May go to the flicks and see somthing. We will see.

Swee and I did our workouts together on Saturday, was good to see how other people do the things that you're doing all the time. We smashed it in no time, outside Club Claremont.

Right, later skaters.

Blog finger... Da da da dada

Apologies for the Shiite title, couldn't for the life of me think what to call it.

Well done Sam for building that contraption, it looks awesome. I cannot wait to pull it right off the ceiling... But seriously, I'll come train with you in the evenings on that thing. IN.

Michael, as I recall, you will not be doing pull-ups every day, so maybe you shouldn't spend that kind of cash on a bar. Maybe just come down to Sam's place on the nights when you have to do them. Actually, I am sure I saw some in TK Max at Blackhall. They were about 20 quid... Go check it out.

Another solid day today - smashed the work-out (pre 11am) and sticking to the diet. So all good.
Swee & I have a party on Saturday evening, I am not going to break the drinking ban for it, not even worried about it. I have another friend coming over the week after, who I have't seen in a long while, so may well break for that. Don't want to do it two weekends in a row.

I am off skiing tomorrow midday. Grainne is having a snowboarding lesson, so Joe, Sean and I are gonna check out the snow-dome... Could be fun. I will try and get my exercises done before we head through around noon.
There is a big group of us heading off to Chamonix in February. I will be taking a full break from FIYL at that point, won't be going crazy and eating shit, just not really fiyling. More on that later though.

Right, I'm in bed, so I'll say good night to you all. Sweet dreams, lot's of rest and no midnight jazzing...Especially you Olly-Bags ; )

Ps - Imagine a lounge just for jazzing at midnight, as if you weren't already!!!

Day 10

Stressful day at work today, for the 1st time since we started FIYL, I was struggling to fit the workout in. Managed to get it done later than usual and before I had eaten my lunch. So when I started, I was not in the best mental space, was thinking I was going to be lagging a bit and out of energy quick. It was fine though, I managed it all and wasn't too bad after.
This may not work as the workouts get harder, I may need to resign myself to the fact that I may have to do exercises in the evenings sometimes.

I guess it needs to fit into my life and not the other way round.

Loved the end of Day 11 email! No late nights... I'm close to my bed already and it's only 6pm

Well done Sam, sounds like things are a fitting in.

I have had an idea, for the Edinburgh lot, perhaps an FIYL sunday lunch round my gaff at somepoint!? Or dinner, or Sat, I dunno, just a thought. Might be good to get everyone in a room, eat some veg, have a couple of carbs... See what happens!

Hi Olivia! I know you're reading this!

Anyways, all good in camp Nicky, I am currently smashing the ever-loving-shit out of FIYL.

A guy at work gave me a decent copy of Les Mis, which Swee & I have already been on a man-date to see. Incredible stuff, thats what I am doing tonight... And crunches.

Live and Let Blog.

Good to read some fellow FIYL blogs. Looks like some are having issues fitting stuff in, perhaps its kids perhaps it's work and already busy schedules! I have no real advice, other than stick with it, it should all fall into place, whats the alternative, dropping out... Can't see it.

So, I feel very lucky that I have time to get exercises done in the daytime, no kids (that I know of) and no stupid o'clock spinning classes to take... So I guess, well done you!? Not sure if I am being facetious   or not... I'll shut up now.

Good day today, food all in order, exercise completed in full, to max reps. I really prefer squats to lunges.

Nothing much to report. Winter beard is coming along nicely, car goes in for an MOT tomorrow. I dreamt about miniature giraffes last night... Can't think of anything else to tell you.

So I'll go.

Bye

(no pic).

I just watched the barista put full fat milk in my coffee... And I'm drinking it...

Last one.

That is all.

Why do today what you can put off till tomorrow??

Seriously productive day!!

I am so on the ball at the moment, solving problem after problem, achieving tasks, it's great! Don't get me wrong, these aren't exactly crazy huge problems that only a genius would take on. It's really only simple stuff, but I can feel the difference in me. I am getting so much more done.

I'm not sure if I like it... Na just kidding, it's a lot better than lying on the couch.

Tonight, I cleaned the whole house, I mean proper too, dusted all the skirting, polished the pictures. Did the stuff you hardly ever do. Took pics of my bike, as I may sell it. Granted I had my dinner made for me, all within the rules. Ironed 2 shirts, cut and prepped my breakie and lunch for tomorrow. Played the guitar, blogged.... THE LIST GOES ON. This is all in 3 hours!! After a busy day at work.

Loved the exercises today, felt it on the push-ups but managed every workout to max possible reps. I wonder how I will feel tomorrow.

Will probably go to bed soon. I am recalling a David Beckham interview, when asked how he stays in such good shape t his age, he said his secret was getting plenty of sleep... We will come to that, I hear Kevin say. Yes we will.

Right, week 2 pic is up!! Not much visible difference but I can certainly feel it.

I hope you're all finding things okay, would be good to hear from you, maybe you've got questions we can help with, maybe not... Im the Boss, need the info...

Here are some veggies, that I am about to steam the fuck out of... They don't stand a chance!

Hey Ho Lets go...

Week 2.

Right, off we go then.

Good 1st week, enjoyed the workouts and ready to step it up a level. Food was okay, kept to it mostly, a couple of small slips, as we were starting in week 2, kind of!! Anyway, point is, good start to build on. Defo less screw-ups than last time.

Breakfast prepared for tomorrow, really early start on a Monday. So, veg chopped and in the fridge, eggs in a pot on the hob, kettle filled and ready for action. Lunch is made too!

I am on the iPad as I write this, looking back through the pics, I saw one of me that I like the shape I'm in. This is around where I am aiming for, just much more toned. Obvs you can't see my stomach, that's where I wanna work on.

Ah, tally-ho, yippety-dip and zing zang spillip! Looking forward to bullying off for the final chukka...

I'm enjoying the effects of not drinking... Don't get me wrong, I LOVE ladling SOUP into me at an incredible rate, with Swee & Slackie in the Bailie, however this is better. For now.

Weight.

Weighed myself yesterday, better late than never.

18st dead. I reckon I've already lost a couple of pounds and I reckon those scales weigh light. So for arguments sake, starting weight 18.7stone.

I finished up last time around 17.6stone, not too bad, although there will be a lot of muscle missing now.

I don't have a target weight, but i would like to get past the 17stone mark... Let's see what happens

Screw Marlon Brando and that dildo Johnny Knoxville... This guy is Da Bomb

BLOG ON...

Hey I'm Kevin Bacon, star of A Few Good Men, Tremors, Footloose... But I'm not here to talk about Kevin Bacon Hollywood A-lister, I'm here to talk about Kevin Bacon FIYLer...

Thanks to Michael for helping link the blogs, I very much enjoyed reading the others. Keep it up!

Joe is coming over to mine ce soir, so I will set-up, link-up and be done with it for shiz.

Smashed the exercises at lunch again, the building of the pull-up bar has begun!!

That is all.

3 is the magic Nombre...

Day 3 -

Still feeling good about things, especially the diet. Am squashing cravings pretty quickly. I walk out my office door and at the end of the corridor is the cafe, every morning they make bacon rolls... The smell is delightful, but to be honest I haven't even been tempted by that. Enjoying cooking in the evenings for a change... It's been take-outs or simply heating lately.

Exercises at Lunch again today. Went well, feeling it in the legs but A - Okay.

I now have a fridge,  microwave and an electric boiling hob in my office! I need a toaster and kettle to complete. When the eggs come, I'll be able to cook em up at the workski!! Nice.

I've read Sam and Kevin's blog posts, had to search little to get there. Always get Swee's, but no shot at Joe, Michael or Topper.

Breakfast this morning, for the new FIYLers, just fry the veg in their on juices, no oil required or allowed, then chuck it on top of the eggs... YUM. You can choose how you want your carbs.

Day 2 Part 2

Exercises done, at work, all good. Lunges were okay and enjoyed the rest, still feeling gooood.

Dinner tonight was very nice, lots of steamed veg, some corn on the cob and some salmon with chilli flakes on top. Nice.

Got some more veg for breakie tomorrow. Will post a pic of  my master creation.

I HATE GOOGLE+ I hope they are reading this.
It's so over complicated, and while I am here, I hate Gmail too. Suck it.

Hopefully Kevin, or someone can sort it out.

Anyways, on a positive note... ALL good in the FIYL hood.

Fuckity bye

Day 2 Breakfast.

Day 2,  thought I was more prepared for breakie, turns out I forgot a lot of veggies...

Tomatoes and spinach is just not enough!

Tomorrow I will be adding; peppers, mushrooms and courgettes.

Looking forward to my exercises today, I think it's gonna get a little easier before it gets harder, if you know what I mean.

Lunch today is last nights left-overs.

Monday, 14 January 2013

Day 1 Complete.

Okay, I feel like this is something different, something better,  maybe easier,  perhaps in the head rather than physically, than before. So that's a good start I reckon. Part of that is knowing whats coming, knowing that I can taylor more to me slightly, but also as there is a good group this time.
Don't get me wrong, Swee and I are bonded together forever, being the original (and best) Fiylers. The things we have been through together... But it's good to have some others on board.

Second week diets to start with too. Didn't manage to get my eggs in this morning, Monday is a very early a start, so I will have to be prepared next week. Lunch was good, salmon & salad etc. Dinner was tuna and veg and rice, all mixed in with a wee bit of yogurt (see pic below). I'm looking forward to using the steamer again (things you thought you'd never hear yourself say, or write).  I need to buy some scales, had to guess tonight but will rectify that shortly.

So, the exercises... did them with Joe down at Scotland Yard Park.

Skipping - Fine, went to fast though, but as Swee said in a text - It's like riding a bike.

Squats - Good, Sir Chris Hoy would have been proud of my thighs...Sill got it.

Press ups - Ouch town. Managed them fine but it hurt a little, didn't see that coming.

Sit ups - Okay, but struggled at the end, again didn't see that coming.

I think I had imagined that it was gonna be way easier, don't want to make a big deal out of it cause it's not, but when I started FIYL the 1st time I had been in the gym for months, 2/3 times per week. I was still a fat bastard but my body was more ready than today. We played ping pong after (of course I won) and we both felt a little light headed... Gay, or just lack of the normal sugar and carbs we been smashing over xmas.

Just to clarify, I have been eating like an absolute champion over the holiday period and before. Really paying no attention to what I was shoveling in and pretty much ignoring all the things I had learnt here. So this time I intend to keep a hold of my new and better lifestyle for a lot longer... Watch this space, and face!

Reeet, that will do for day 1 blog. Hope the rest of the team are feeling good about it all.

Onwards.

Fiyl round 2

Well here we go again. Just took my day 1 pics, will post them tomorrow. Hmm a lot has slipped since day 90...

Still raring to go, starting in a better position and really looking forward to watching it fall off.

That's all for now, will do a proper day 1 tomorrow. Welcome back refiylers and welcome to the rest. You're gonna love it.

Tatie bye.

Ps- off to eat something unhealthy.
